Cadence and ATI Team to Form Broad Reaching Partnership

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 20, 2003--

ATI Standardizes on Cadence Encounter Platform to Address Challenges of Next-generation Nanometer Graphics Chip Design

Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NYSE:CDN) today announced a broad reaching partnership with ATI Technologies, Inc. (TSX:ATY) (Nasdaq:ATYT), a world leader in the design and manufacture of innovative 3D graphics and digital media silicon solutions. Under the agreement, ATI will standardize on Cadence(R) SoC Encounter(TM) and a wide spectrum of other Cadence tools.

Cadence's ability to provide leadership and end-to-end design solutions makes it a natural partner for customers consolidating on fewer electronic design suppliers. ATI plans to incorporate Cadence technologies into its design environment to enhance the ATI design flow. Cadence will provide ATI with access to Cadence's internal research and development team as well as onsite migration support to assist ATI in the adoption of new Cadence technology.

"We have tremendous respect for ATI and look forward to helping them solve their toughest design challenges at 90 nanometers and below," said Penny Herscher, executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Cadence. "Complex graphics and digital media chip designs demand the best technology solutions, and it's rewarding that ATI chose Cadence as its partner, for our technology leadership across the board and, in particular, the industry-leading Encounter platform. The goal of this expanded agreement is a Cadence-centric flow that meets the majority of ATI's design needs today, and that we collaborate to meet their needs in the future."

"This partnership with Cadence is essential to help us meet the technology challenges at 90 nanometers and below," said Greg Buchner, vice president of engineering at ATI Technologies. "As we design the world's most complex graphics chips and forge the future of the 3D graphics industry, it is imperative that we work with the best technology available. For this reason, we selected Cadence as our premier design partner for our electronic design technology flow."

The agreement is initially for three years and includes a broad range of Cadence technology.
